Wagner College Invites Dr. Mary Helen Washington for 2025 Black History Month Scholar lecture

The English department is excited about the upcoming visit of Dr. Mary Helen Washington to Wagner College on Tuesday, February 11. Dr. is a distinguished professor emeritus at the University of Maryland. She has edited numerous anthologies and editions of literature by black women. Her book The Other Blacklist: The African American Literary and Cultural Left of the 1950s has been considered a groundbreaking work of scholarship. In 2014, she received a life-time achievement award from the American Studies Association

Her presentation at Wagner College is titled "Paule Marshal: a (Woman) Writer's Life." It focuses on the famous author from Brooklyn, New York, Paule Marshall, whose many novels and short stories chart the relationship of black communities in New York to Caribbean roots.

The presentation is open to the public in Spiro 2 at 5:00 pm.
