A Weekend of Family Fun
Even after being away from home for a few months, you still make time to welcome your parents to your home away from home. While having your parents on campus, as much as they want to spend time in your room and see how you live, there’s plenty of ways to take them off campus and still spend quality time with them.
Food:
Cheeburger Cheeburger has some great diner options on the island. It has a very retro feel to it and has great hamburgers and fried pickles!
Duffy's Tavern was voted to have the best burger on the island. Stacked in between an English muffin, it's the thickest juiciest burger you'll have on Staten Island.
Fun on the island:
Staten Island Mini Golf and Batting Cages offers a great time for fun family activities off campus. From mini golf to go-karts, it offers a nice alternative to traveling around seeing different sites on the Island while still enjoying family fun time.
The Staten Island Mall has the best shopping selection next to Manhattan. It's the best place to get your new winter clothes and bond with the family.
The Staten Island Zoo is a gem on the Island that offers you something you can't find anywhere else (except all the way up in the Bronx.) Its open 7 days a week and is a relatively cheap family activity.
Family activities in the city:
Melt shop: Again, I have to brag about how good it is. My mom and sister loved it when they visited this past weekend.
Broadway plays (TKTS): Don't want to spend $300 on a Broadway play? Well go check out the TKTS booths and get huge discounts on shows the same day! It's a great cost effective alternative to see the plays you've always wanted to go to.
Statue of liberty: Ever want to get in touch with history? The Statue of Liberty is a surprisingly inexpensive historical monument that you can check out with just a short ride on the Staten Island Ferry into Manhattan.
WTC memorial: This free memorial is an empowering experience to remember and witness the strength of America. To run your hand over the names of those who lost their lives on 9/11 is an experience every American should go through.
Hope you had a great Family Weekend and don't forget to go do some of these things on your own or with friends!
