Hearing Christmas Bells

As winter break approached, students on campus bustled and scurried to finish last-minute assignments and get all of their studying in as final examinations began.  In the midst of finals week, I had the pleasure of enjoying a holiday concert put on by the Wagner College Concert Band.  On December 8, 2012, at 3:00 PM, I entered the newly renovated Main Hall building and nestled myself next to my suite mate to enjoy a beautiful mix of classical band music and festive holiday tunes.

Holiday Concert

The concert filled my soul with holiday cheer.  Listening to the soothing sounds of the clarinets, flutes, saxophones, trombones, bells, and all of the other instruments together filling the air with beautiful sounds could not have been a better study break for me.  One of my favorite songs during the whole concert was "The Walking Frog" by K.L. King, arrangement by Robert E. Foster.  It was a cute song that reminded me of a circus atmosphere on a sunny summer day.

So next year if you are ever looking for some sort of study break on the weekend during finals week during the fall semester, try coming out to hear the Wagner College Concert Band in their Holiday Concert. Some studies show that listening to classical music makes you smarter. So why don't you come out and support your fellow musicians and gain a few brain cells while you are at it?  Happy holidays, everyone, and I hope you all get to hear some holiday bells ring wherever you may be! I will be staying on campus throughout winter break, so keep checking back for more updates on what is going on here in New York when you have a chance!
