The Best Netflix Movies to Get Your Spook on in the Dorm

Hey Readers!

Halloween is creeping up on us! Hope you all found your costumes. Ha, Ha. Just kidding! We all know that we are panicking trying to decide what to be right now. Besides going to that costume party of course, getting cozy for the holidays, and putting on a scary movie is one of the best parts of Halloween! So I've compiled a list of Netflix must-see's to get you in the spooky spirit.

1.The Babadook

First shown at an Australian independent film festival, this movie quickly gained mass media attention, and was awarded an astounding 98% on Rotten Tomatoes- and it’s obvious why. The story follows a single mother, her troublesome child, and a storybook character that ends up being not so fictional. I saw this gem in theaters, and I highly recommend it. (Pro tip: don’t watch alone.)

2. The Nightmare Before Christmas

Sometimes you just need to watch an old childhood favorite... AND IF YOU HAVEN’T SEEN THIS BEFORE YOU ARE MISSING OUT. Don’t be fooled by the title, this movie is music filled and creepalicious.

3. The Taking of Deborah Logan

Horror movie lovers rejoice! Although this one’s ratings are less than great, I was pleasantly surprised by how many chills it sent down my spine. I am usually not a fan of documentary-style fictional movies, but this film followed a girl creating her college senior thesis for a film project following a woman who they believe has Alzheimers. Spoiler alert: It is definitely not Alzheimers!

4. V/H/S

Okay, I’ll be honest, this one is just plain weird. You know those things that people don’t really want to do but like, you have to do it at least ONCE in your lifetime. Yeah, this movie is basically that. It is a collection of horror shorts that are quite possible the most hair-raising cinema you will see in a very, very long time.

5. Human Centipede

I refuse to add a GIF for this movie and if you’ve seen it you understand.

You know what, I take this one back. Do not watch this movie. Ever. Save yourself.

6. American Horror Story

YES NETLIX. Thank you from American Horror Story cult followers everywhere for finally putting up Season 4. If you are an AHS fan, you are doing it right. If you haven’t seen American Horror Story but you like scary movies then you need to watch this show right now. I’ll give you a breakdown of the Seasons:  Season 1- Haunted house, eerie, extremely interesting plot line, awesome characters, ghosts, and murders. Season 2- Insane asylum, much more gory, chilling, murders, aliens, nazis, and fantastic plot twists. Season 3- Witch Coven, less scary, and more plotline. It has a lot of humor, and historical refrences. Season 4- Freakshow setting, murder, murder, and more murder.

7. American Psycho

This one is more of a psychological thriller, and features an extremely good looking young Christian Bale who basically looses his marbles and has an affection for knives. This movie always frustrates me because it’s so wrong to be so attracted to someone SO BONKERS. Anyways, it’s a classic and absolutely worth the watch.

8. The Harvest

I watched this a few days ago when it popped up on my suggested feed, I guess I have been watching some odd movies lately. It is pretty much a more morbid, and sinister version of My Sister’s Keeper; about a little girl who befriends a boy who she believes was kidnapped. The plot twist is unconditionally fulfilling.

So, if you are cozying it up on a chilly night, and need some hair-raising films, these are my top for fall right now! And if you are not a fan of horror movies, The Nightmare Before Christmas or The Harvest are probably your best bets. Or flip on Disney Channel, and catch some Halloweentown or Hocus Pocus. Happy Fall, Wagner!
