The Final Greek Event of the Year
This year came and went so fast that it seems like only yesterday when I first introduced myself on HawkTalk. Being in a Greek organization, one of our many exclusive events is our final event, which we call "Formal." Formal is basically a type of dance where all the brothers invite dates to a nice hotel to enjoy dinner and a night of dancing. Every Greek house has its own formal and members of other fraternities and sororities are sometimes invited as dates. It really is nice seeing everyone dressed so nicely during these nights.
This year I had the pleasure of attending two formals, Alpha Sigma Alpha's and my own. The fun part of this was that these formals were back-to-back. ASA's formal was the night before Theta Chi's. As all good formal parties go, you have to plan these things with time, need to pick the perfect outfit, and make sure you match with your date.
Once everyone looked like a million dollars, we all went to the ballroom for dinner and dancing. It was a nice treat to see many of my Theta Chi brothers at this formal — it shows the strong bond we share with ASA. Then it was time for Senior Wills, which basically is when the seniors get to make fun of the underclassmen, all in good fun. Some were funnier than others, but they still were very entertaining. We all laughed and danced the night away, and once our time was up in the ballroom, we carried on in our rooms. We all changed into more comfortable clothes, ordered pizza and enjoyed our time together.
Waking up the day after Alpha Sigma Alpha's formal was not as bad as we were expecting. In the process of waking up and getting ready, you could see all the girls trying to find their shoes and accessories. It was a funny scene to watch, with everyone running in their pajamas trying to find their lost belongings.
Our first desire once we got to the other hotel was to go into the pool. Suddenly we all became young kids again and jumped right in. Relaxing for a while before getting ready was definitely what we needed in order to recharge our batteries for the second night. The water was so refreshing that it was almost impossible to get out of the pool.
Once everyone was dressed to impress we headed over to the restaurant. Once again, everyone looked like royalty in their best attire. The first few minutes of the night were spent taking pictures with everyone, specially the graduating seniors, then the dancing began. Like the previous night, we all danced until our bodies could not stand it anymore. Dinner was served at the perfect moment — we all got a chance to catch our breath and enjoy Senior Wills and our own superlative awards. Near the end of the night, the brothers of Theta Chi shared a very special moment when we all hugged in a circle and danced together.
Formal weekend is definitely the most fun, and everyone looks forward to it in Greek life. It is our way of celebrating ourselves. Every formal is filled with love and fun, and we all end up looking forward to next year's formal.
