Top Cheap Eats in NYC
Four years in NYC!!! I can't believe I've been living here for that long! I still love and crave this city just as much as I did when I first came here my Freshman year. Although I feel like I could live here my whole life and still not make it everywhere in the city I want to go to, I've written a round up of my favorite stops over the last few years. As an incoming freshman, its sometimes tough to navigate the city-- especially on a college budget! These places are fun, delicious, and easy on your wallet!
TWO HANDS CAFE, LITTLE ITALY $$
I went to Two Hands about 2 years ago when it was still at their old location, they used to have the cutest little heart mural on the side of the building! This spot is still a great stop for weekend brunch or quick bite with girlfriends. Expect to wait for a table, or try out this hack.
Recommend: Avocado Toast, Acai Bowl, Bacon Breakfast Sandwich
THE BUTCHERS DAUGHTER, LOWER MANHATTAN + GREENWICH $$
Butchers Daughter was actually one of my favorite places when I was living in LA, they have the best location in Venice Beach and incredible vegan food options! The NYC location is cute and cozy and always blows me away with quick yummy food each time.
Recommend: Heirloom BLT, Avocado toast
SHAKE SHACK, MULTIPLE LOCATIONS $
Now, I've only been here once and personal opinion I think Smashburger and In-n-out surpass this place by far, BUT it is a classic New York stop.
TORTARIA, GREENWICH $
Greenwich is one of my favorite neighborhoods (which is why so many places on this list are from there) and I love the food and margaritas here. Definitely a perfect spot for a quick bite and happy hour. Beware... one margarita is enough.
BY CHLOE, MULTIPLE LOCATIONS $
Vegan vegan vegan!! By chloe also has the cutest instagram feed ever you can check out here. A must stop for non-vegans as well.
Recommend: Avocado smash, Guac burger
ICHIBAN RAMEN, GREENWICH $$
I came for the pork buns, I came back for the ramen.
SMORGASBURG, BROOKLYN $
When it's warm in NYC Smorgasburg is one of my top 5 places to spend a Sunday. Either at their prospect park location or at the pier in Brooklyn, both places have amazing unique food vendors for anything that you are craving.
Recommend: Big mozz sticks, pommes frites (french fries), Dough (famous donuts)
DO, GREENWICH $
If you haven't seen this on Instagram... here you go! I don't have the biggest sweet tooth so I only had a few bites of mine but if you ate cookie dough as a kid here is your grown up "safe" version!
Recommend: The only way I could describe this cookie dough is THICK, my tip is to mix it 1/2 with ice cream to make it creamier!
ARTICHOKE PIZZA, MULTIPLE LOCATIONS $
My favorite pizza in the city. Get the artichoke slice, no questions. The slice is bigger than your head so go hungry.
WAFFLES & DINGUS, MULTIPLE LOCATIONS (CENTRAL PARK) $
If you're visiting on a chilly day in the fall or winter, this is my favorite place to grab a sweet snack when near central park. Reminds me of classic Dutch waffles you could find in Amsterdam.
BIG GAY ICE CREAM, GREENWICH $
Tasty and VERY Instagrammable ice cream!
Recommend: The Salty Dog
