Title: Coordinator of the PS 21 Eagle Leadership Academy

 Departments: Center for Leadership and Community Engagement (CLCE)

 Organizational Relationship: Reports to the Director of the CLCE

 Job Purpose:

The Coordinator of the PS 21 Eagle Leadership Academy (ELA) will work under the supervision of the Director of the Center for Leadership and Community Engagement, in collaboration with an IS 51 designated staff member, PS 21 staff members, and the Port Richmond Partnership Leadership Academy Coordinator at Port Richmond High School. The Coordinator of the PS 21 Eagle Leadership Academy will oversee the daily operations of the Leadership Academy. They will work directly with 12-40 elementary  students within the ELA but will also work closely with the school administration and faculty to engage all of the elementary school students in thinking about college, career, and contribution to society. The coordinator will work closely with the Wagner College and Port Richmond High School student mentors, as well as support all major functions of the College and Career Office at PS 21 year round. This includes but is not limited to 1:1 mentorship with students, curriculum development, facilitating reflective discussions, mentoring observations, leading team-building activities, maintaining displays and bulletin boards, field trips throughout New York City, and high school and college visits for students.


 Essential Functions:

  • Prepare, facilitate, and oversee all leadership academy functioning throughout the intensive summer program and academic year;
  • Anticipate, suggest, promote direction and policy changes within the Leadership Academy;
  • Directly supervise a team comprised of Wagner College staff, students, and community partners;
  • Participate, assist, and contribute to staffing processes;
  • Create schedules and work plans for staff members;
  • Write reports for internal and external audiences including program funders;
  • Exercise independent judgment and discretion to allocate budget funds;
  • Raise program visibility by attending and presenting at local and national conferences and meetings and through the creation of published/ printed materials;
  • Facilitate curriculum for participant seminar and workshop lessons;
  • Educate students and parents about high school, the high school admissions process, trends, procedures, and testing as well as providing pathways to college readiness;
  • Committed to excellence and attentive to detail;
  • Driver’s license and access to reliable transportation required;
  • Prepare and submit expense reports on a timely basis;
  • Answer and screen incoming calls, and respond to inquiries as directed;
  • Research, collect, and analyze information and materials from the internet and other sources;
  • Prepare correspondence, documents, and spreadsheets;
  • Prepare, gather, and organize materials for meetings and presentations;
  • All other duties as assigned by the superior as deemed necessary.

 Work Experiences:

  • Experience working with school-age students.
  • Experience working well independently and in collaborative teams.


  • Bachelor’s degree required, ideally in early childhood education, psychology, or related fields.

 Computer Skills: 

  • Strong skills in Google Docs, Sheets, Slides, Sites, and Calendar
  • Ability to learn and utilize new technology for efficiency

 Communication/ Interpersonal Skills: 

  • Must maintain a professional demeanor with excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Cultivate and sustain strong relationships with teachers, staff, and administration of PS 21 Margaret Emery - Elm Park
  • Strong oral and written communication skills required
  • Sensitivity to needs of students with confidential information
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and computer skills
  • Bilingual preferred but not required
