Deconstructing the Model Minority Myth

Deconstructing the Model Minority Myth

For decades Asian Americans are often stereotyped as studious, successful, smart, affluent, self-sufficient — a model minority who excel in education and accomplish the “American Dream.” Despite its positive overtones, this stereotype is damaging for Asian Americans and other people of color. The model minority myth pits people of color against each other and ignores the reality of systemic racism and a long history of discrimination that Asian Americans continue to encounter. Join the Center for Intercultural Advancement and Asian Pacific Islander Association for a conversation center around asking a vital question: Does the model minority myth still hold true? There are four panelists for this conversation and together they will share their views on the “model minority myth”. We will then open it up for a dialogue with the community.

Dr. Ange Concepcion

Dr. Nelson Kim
