5 Helpful Tips to Prepare Your Child for an Audition

ACTAuditionTips

This weekend and next we will be having auditions for our ACT Spring show “The Wizard of Oz.” If it is your child’s first time auditioning or if they are a seasoned pro here are a few tips on how to help your child prepare.

  1. Research! Spend time with your child to research the role they are auditioning for. Try exploring the story’s time period, location, and the character’s role in the plot. Help them understand the character’s circumstances and then act as if it were happening to them.
  2. Preparing their materials. Help your child find a song that is appropriate for their age and range. One of the best kids audition tips is to make sure the songs they choose are songs that your child enjoys singing. This enjoyment will show through in their performance. We all do better at things we like to do!
  3. Practice makes perfect! Help your child overcome stage fright by having them practice their song, dance, monologue, scene or whatever they are performing...to the point where they no longer have to think about the action itself...in other words, it becomes "second nature".
  4. Mistakes happen! If your child makes a mistake assure them it is OK. We are all human.
  5. Be Excited. Directors want to see your child’s enthusiasm and confidence for the show. Remind them to smile, give it their all and be themselves.

Good luck to all our students auditioning this weekend!!!
