Job Description

This position is for Summer 2025 only.

Number of open positions depends on enrollment.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Supervise campers in on-site camps administrated by Lifelong Learning between July 7 – August 15; 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday – Friday.
    • Arrive at the Parker Hall Gazebo at 8:30am each day you are scheduled to work.
      •  Check-in campers assigned to your group.
      • At approximately 8:50am take final attendance and report any campers still missing to the Camp Director.
      • Escort your campers to location of first activity in a safe and orderly manner. Take head count once you reach location to verify all students have traveled with you.
      • Confirm attendance with Camp Director.
    • Follow directions of lead instructor with any activities children are participating in during morning class time.
      • Escort any children needing to use the restroom to bathroom facilities. Campers must be in proximity (sight or sound) of a camp staff person at all times.
      • Maintain set supervision ratios at all times during camp.
    • Assist campers during lunch hour in cafeteria following rules and procedures.
    • Orchestrate afternoon activities determined by Camp Director and provide input and assistance on camp activities.
      • Mediate any conflicts arising between campers.
      • Report any issues or injuries to Camp Director.
    • Assist with dismissal at Parker Hall Gazebo at 4:00pm.

Camp Counselors Must:

  • Complete all necessary HR forms and paperwork required for employment.
  • Be available and on campus for weeks employed by Lifelong Learning and outlined on contract.
  • Attend Lifelong Learning Summer Camp Counselor Orientation.
  • Review and be familiar with Camp Safety Plan.
  • Ensure that all camps are adhering to health and safety regulations and supervision ratios as mandated by New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, with particular attention to Article 48 of the NYC Health Code, a copy of which will be provided to you.

Qualifications:

  • Must be at least 18 years old and have graduated high school.
  • Preferably has experience as a camp counselor and/or in classroom setting observing and working with children.
  • Must enjoy working with children/teens ranging in ages from 6 to 16.
  • Must be able to communicate with parents and children in a calm and respectful manner.
  • Must be patient, responsible, good under pressure, flexible to change, and creative.

Compensation:

Current New York State Hourly Minimum Wage

Lunch is included each day of full day camp during employment.

For Human Resources and Financial Aid reasons, camp counselors cannot be enrolled in any summer classes at Wagner College. Housing is not included.
