2021 Summer Reading Assignment

A summer read book has been part of the Wagner Tradition for many years. Offering a stimulating and enjoyable discussion point for students, faculty, and the entire Wagner community, the summer read serves as a resource for all to learn about each other and the world around them.  When students come to campus for the first time as Wagner students, they will embark on a new leg of their journey as they develop into more engaged adults and citizens of the world and New York City.

Your First Year Program faculty carefully selected Your Turn, by Julie Lythcott-Haims as your summer reading book because it touches upon the importance of cultivating self-identity in an important time of your life, and indeed, a challenging time to be alive in the world.  It offers an engaging way to look at the world through a journey of self-discovery, and we are excited for it to serve as a tool in conjunction with the exciting college experiences ahead of you.

You can order your copy from our Bookstore here: wagnercollegeshop.com by early June. Click on books (textbooks), choose the term ‘Summer 2021,’ and department ‘Default.’ and Course ‘SR 101’ (Summer Reading 101) section 01. Enter submit and it will bring up the book along with instructions on how to order online so you can have it mailed to your summer address.

In July and early August, you will take part in some orientation activities online. As you engage in these activities and start to become familiar with Wagner, we’ll ask you to reflect on the summer read through a short written response. You will have the opportunity to share these reflections with your new classmates, faculty, and mentors as you arrive on campus in August. We look forward to meeting you and partnering with you on your journey!
