
Congratulations to the winners of this year’s underclass awards, given at the ceremony held on Thursday, April 18, 2024, in Foundation Hall’s Manzulli Board Room. The annual ceremony recognizes outstanding academic and leadership achievements of deserving Wagner College students.
2024 Underclass Award Winners
Katarina Andiel won the Community Service Award, given in recognition of commitment to community service through campus organizations. (Campus Life)
Isabelle Audrin won the Richard Gaffney Memorial Grant, given to support student work in art. (Department of Visual Arts)
AG Carhart won the C. Wright Mills Award, given to a student with outstanding academic potential who embodies the spirit of sociological imagination. (Department of Sociology)
Ruth-Ann Chambers won the Eduardo Chirinos Spanish Award, given to a student for outstanding work in Spanish language and literature. (Department of Modern Languages, Literatures & Cultures)
Gianna Cipolla won the Biological Sciences Award, given to a student demonstrating the highest academic promise in Biological Sciences. (Department of Biological Sciences)
Harley Caiden Cooper won the Leader on the Horizon Award, given in recognition of a student who shows promise as a leader on campus. (Campus Life)
Alanis DeJesus won the Gertrude Aull Award, given to a student with great potential as a psychologist. (Department of Psychology)
Samantha DeSena won the Special Education Award, given to a student who has done outstanding work in the field of Special Education. (Education Department)
Rebecca Desiderio won the Outstanding Service in Communication Award, given in recognition of contributions to one or more of the media organizations on campus (Campus Life)
Olivia Faith Doyle won the Art History Award, given to a student who demonstrates excellence, both in and out of the classroom, in the study of art history. (Department of Visual Arts)
Izabela Dyrkacz won the Jules Elle Bittner Promising Pediatric Nurse Award, given to a student who is an example of clinical excellence in pediatric settings as evidenced by compassion in the clinical and community setting. (Evelyn L. Spiro School of Nursing)
June Fernandez Moraño won the Kurt Goedel Award for Excellence in Mathematics, given in recognition of outstanding performance and achievement in the field of mathematics, based on the student’s grade point average and performance in class. (Department of Mathematics & Computer Science)
Zachary Gorman won the Class of 2008 Scholarship, given to a rising senior in recognition of outstanding qualities in academics as well as service to the college. (Campus Life)
Hayden Hulser won the Phyllis Andors Award, given for outstanding performance in the study of government and politics (Department of Government & Politics)
Elise Johnson won the Robert D. Blomquist Memorial Award in Biology, given to an outstanding biology student with good moral character. (Department of Biological Sciences)
Amanda Lau won the Kappa Mu Epsilon Award, given in recognition of excellence in service and leadership as a Mathematics or Computer Science major. (Department of Mathematics & Computer Science)

John Mustacchio won the Rev. Piotr Pilch Prize in Fine Arts, given to an outstanding and promising art student. (Department of Visual Arts)
Jennifer Orjuela won the Promising Gerontological Nurse Award, given to a junior nursing student who demonstrates promise as a gerontological nurse as reflected in evidence-based clinical performance. (Evelyn L. Spiro School of Nursing)
Christopher Romano won the Robbie & Mary Boody Memorial Award in Art, given in recognition of exceptional scholarly work in art. (Department of Visual Arts)
Erin Rooney won the Verrazano Memorial Prize, given in recognition of outstanding academic achievement in history. (Department of History)
Sophie Schulz won the Jack J. Boies Award for Creative Writing, given for excellence in the annual Creative Writing Competition. (Department of English)
Artan Shaini won the Bonner of the Year award, given to a student who exemplifies the Seahawk spirit of Civic Engagement and leadership through ongoing community work, democratic engagement, and reflective practice. (Civic Engagement)
Kathryn Siverson the Business Administration Award, given in recognition of the student in the Nicolais School of Business with the highest GPA. (Nicolais School of Business)
Eric Spangler won three awards:
- the Dr. Rhoda Frumkin Literacy Award, given in recognition of an education student committed to culturally responsive literacy in schools. (Education Department)

Kendall Tabobandung won the Verrazano Memorial Prize, given in recognition of outstanding academic achievement in history. (Department of History)
Casey Taylor won the Simone de Beauvoir French Award, given in recognition of a French Studies major who has achieved the highest distinction in the study of French or Francophone literature. (Department of Modern Languages, Literatures & Cultures)
