Wagner College professors Katia González, Paul Gold, and the late Rhonda Frumkin have co-edited a new book on the evolving dynamics of teacher preparation.
Teacher Preparation Programs, Partnerships, and the New Landscape for the Profession focuses on innovative partnerships that support collaboration and growth for the next generation of educators.
Contributors examine the complexities of forming successful partnerships across various educational settings. These relationships are vital for ensuring both higher education institutions and pre-kindergarten through high schools adapt to the changing demands of teaching.
The editors brought together voices from both education and community leadership, creating a rich tapestry of experiences and insights that demonstrate the diverse approaches to partnership-building.
The book features contributions from several Wagner faculty, including Jane Victoria DeFazio, Lorrie DeSena, Jose Luis Diaz Jr., Patricia Tooker, Dina Prisco, and Vannessa A. Smith-Washington. Their chapters offer unique perspectives on teacher preparation and community engagement, emphasizing how partnerships can enhance education and drive systemic innovation.
The Wagner contributors particularly focus on culturally responsive practices and the critical role of individualized approaches in fostering effective collaboration.
Each chapter of this volume offers practical, reflective questions to inspire further discussion and growth among educators, administrators, and stakeholders in the field. Teacher Preparation Programs, Partnerships, and the New Landscape for the Profession is a testament to the Wagner College community’s commitment to fostering education through collaboration, innovation, and engagement.
In the wake of Frumkin's death on January 2, 2024, Gonzalez and other colleagues established the Dr. Frumkin Literacy Award, which will support education students committed to culturally responsive literacy in schools. Donations in honor of Dr. Rhoda Frumkin for the Literacy Award can be made to Wagner College, Reynolds House, 1 Campus Rd, Staten Island, NY 10301.
