Friends of Wagner College are gearing up for the annual Day of Giving, to show their support and anchor the institution’s vital mission in a firm philanthropic foundation.
Kaitlin Girton, vice president for institutional advancement, called the annual drive “an essential initiative at Wagner” to support students and programs.
“It enhances engagement with our alumni and friends while raising awareness around the current needs of our institution and students, helping to foster a true culture of giving within the college community,” Girton said.
This is the 11th year Wagner has celebrated the Day of Giving, under the umbrella of Giving Tuesday, a day dedicated to the importance of charitable giving amid all the commercialism of the season. The theme “Be an Anchor for Wagner” recalls the campus’ origins as the estate of the Cunard family of shipowners as well as the ship’s anchor that has long been a Wagner landmark.
“Thanks to the generosity of our loyal supporters, the Day of Giving proves to become more successful each year, in both monetary and participation results,” Girton reported. “Just last year, a total of $1,155,339 was raised from 1,008 donors in 24 hours. This success was due largely in part to the support of our college leadership, including senior administration, the board of trustees, and the alumni association.”
This year’s goal is $500,000 from 500 individual donors during the 24 hours of Tuesday, Dec. 3. There are more than 50 specific programs — academic, athletic and cultural — to which you can target your support. You can become an anchor by going here: wagner.edu/dayofgiving
