No Island is an Island: Two Views of our NYC Borough
On Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 4:15 p.m. in Kairos House, please join the Faculty Forum for presentations by Wagner College History Department scholars Lori Weintrob and Rita Reynolds on Staten Island history. Insight into the dynamic evolution of New York City and our Nation can be found by examining the history of transportation, industrialization, health care, religion and politics in local places. Lori Weintrob will explore the links between Manhattan and Staten Island from the 1860s Civil War Draft Riots to the 1930s, with particular focus on the entrepreneurial drive and cultural change brought by immigrants from around the globe. Rita Reynolds will discuss aspects of the history of health care on Staten Island, beginning in the early 19th century and continuing to the Seaview Tuberculosis Hospital in the 1950s.
