Harkness Center Workshop on preventing dance injuries
Back by popular demand, a representative of Harkness Center for Dance Injuries will be coming to Wagner to host a workshop on Injury Prevention. Here is a basic outline of the Injury Prevention Workshop (IPW) program:
- Structure: 90 minute workshop, split between lecture and interactive lab
- Content will include: forces acting on the body that can cause injury; basic nutrition for dancers; proper cross training, periodization, stretching, warm-up and cool down principles, common sites of injury in the dancer body; injury types and definitions; and how to manage injuries if they occur.
- The lab portion will allow the dancers to test each other’s flexibility, strength, and test their own functional control and alignment. The dancers are then given exercises and stretches to address anything they find when they do the tests.
Pre-Dentistry Society guest speaker
