From the Earth to the Pedestal Gallery Opening Reception

September 5, 2015 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Wagner Union Atrium

On Saturday, Sept. 5 from 4 to 6 p.m., the Wagner College Gallery will host an artists’ reception opening a new sculpture exhibition entitled, “From the Earth to the Pedestal.” The exhibition opens Tuesday, Sept. 1 and runs through Sunday, Sept. 27. Both the exhibition and the reception are free, and the public is invited.

More than 10 years ago, Staten Island sculptor Marc Zimetbaum suggested that “an open sculpture studio for adults would be an opportunity and a great idea that would benefit not only those who wanted to learn how to turn clay into terracotta sculpture but to the college as well.”

Wagner College agreed and began offering an open class every Saturday morning in its Sculpture Studio. “From the Earth to the Pedestal” is a sampling of work from that course.

Included in the show are works by Ann Marie Akash, James Ceribello, Patrick DeCicco, Diane Isaac, Anthony Richichi, Liv Pandolfino, Marjorie Waxman and Marc Zimetbaum.

Artists will be showing terra cotta sculptures of the human figure, between 12 and 24 inches in height, all of which were created during class sessions.

Gallery hours are Tuesday through Sunday, 11 to 5 p.m., with extended hours on Thursdays until 9 p.m. The Wagner College Gallery is located in the Union Building at Wagner College, 631 Howard Ave., Grymes Hill, Staten Island, New York. For more information, phone the Wagner College Art Department at 718-390-3192.
