Foundation Hall Manzulli Board Room

Dr. Steven Thomas spent last semester in Ethiopia as a Fulbright Scholar where he taught classes on film analysis and researched the influence Oromo ethnic traditions of democracy and women's rights on contemporary filmmakers in Ethiopia. Coincidentally, while Steve was in Ethiopia conducting his research, the Oromo "Gada system" was inscribed by UNESCO as an "intangible world heritage." Dr. Thomas will also screen one short film made in Ethiopia that dramatizes Gada justice, another short film about the empowerment of women, and a scene from a feature film made in the United States that dramatize how the Gada system is adapted to the immigrant experience in America.
