Ron Cross Memorial Concert (@ Eltingville Lutheran Church)

April 7, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

“Dufay and Friends: Music from the Renaissance and Beyond,” a free concert in memory of Dr. Ronald Cross, will be held at Eltingville Lutheran Church, 300 Genesee Ave. (just off Richmond Avenue), Staten Island.

Collectio Musicorum, a New York-based ensemble devoted to giving performances of music from the earliest of times, will join forces with the Wagner College chamber choir and other Staten Island musicians to present a concert in commemoration of the fifth anniversary of the death of Dr. Ronald Cross (1929-2013), beloved music professor at Wagner College for more than 40 years.

The concert will start with the musicians of Collectio Musicorum performing pieces by Guillaume Dufay (1397-1474) and his friend Giles Binchois (1400-1460) under the direction of artistic director/founder Dr. Jeff Dailey. The selections are a mixture of sacred and secular pieces, including some of Dufay’s best-known chansons.

This will be followed by a performance by the Wagner College chamber choir under the direction of Dr. Roger Wesby. They will sing music from the 15th and 16th centuries as well as more recent settings of ancient texts. Alumni of the Wagner College Collegium Musicum, founded by Dr. Cross, and other musicians will then conclude the program, joining with Collectio Musicorum and the Wagner College students in some of Dr. Cross’s favorite pieces.
