Galatea
John Lyly's sweet pastoral, performed at the court of Queen Elizabeth I to celebrate the New Year, features two girls disguised as boys who hide in the woods in order to avoid Neptune's annual sacrifice. Nice fathers, nymphs, fairies, and various gods, including Venus, all conspire to protect the lovers who ultimately are married--proving again that Love is Love.
