Items can also be engraved with a uniquely identifiable serial number prefaced with the letters N.Y.C.. Benefits from this program include:
- The marked property is more difficult for a thief to sell
- Stolen property in the possession of a thief is traceable to the registered owner
- Should you be a victim of theft, registering your property with the NYPD could help bring about its return
