Picnic Performance
PICNIC by William Inge brings to life the heat and tension of a sweltering Labor Day morning in a small Kansas town, where the women of a quiet neighborhood prepare for the annual picnic. Amidst the preparations, watchful mother Flo Owens hopes her beautiful daughter, Madge, will receive a proposal from the wealthy Alan, while younger sister Millie dreams of escaping their small-town life. Good-natured Mrs. Potts enjoys a rare break from caring for her elderly mother, and spinster schoolteacher Rosemary keeps her boyfriend, Howard, at arm’s length. However, their seemingly tranquil lives are upended when Hal Carter, a muscular and charming drifter with ties to Alan, arrives unexpectedly. As Hal’s bold and magnetic presence disrupts the quiet community, hearts are broken and lives are irrevocably changed.
