The newly released 2025 Carnegie Classifications of Institutions of Higher Education has designated Wagner College a “higher earnings” school for alumni.
The college’s ranking compares median alumni earnings to earnings of people in their area ages 22 to 40 who hold a high school diploma or higher; Wagner graduates earn on average 68% more than the comparison group, according to the Carnegie list.
“It’s encouraging to see that the new Carnegie classification reflects Wagner’s great success in helping graduates build lives of accomplishment,” said President Jeffrey Doggett.
The 2025 Classification labels Wagner a “Professions-focused Undergraduate/Graduate-Master's Small” institution. Drawing on federal enrollment data from 2020 to 2023, the venerable classification system reports that 69.7% of Wagner undergraduate degrees have been in health professions, visual and performing arts, and business.
Over the three-year period, 72% of degrees awarded at Wagner were bachelors, 26.6% masters and 1.4% doctorates.
The Carnegie Classification, overseen by the American Council on Education, has since 1973 been classifying U.S. higher education institutions depending on what types of and how many academic offerings and degrees they confer, and how intensely they conduct research.
The organization evaluates institutions on a roughly three-year cycle; in 2021, 2018 and 2015 Wagner was a placed among Master’s Colleges & Universities: Medium.
