Barbara (Decker) Matthius, a Staten Island resident and dedicated Wagner College staff member for 20 years, passed away on Feb. 9 at the age of 98.
A graduate of Hunter College, Mrs. Matthius began her career at Wagner as a secretary in the admissions office and later served as assistant to the dean of academic affairs before retiring.
Beyond her professional contributions, Mrs. Matthius was actively involved in numerous Staten Island organizations, including the Staten Island Garden Club, the Westerleigh Improvement Society, and Immanuel Union Church.
She is survived by her children: Barbara-Ann “Bunny” Matthius ’75, Jo-Ellen Brannigan ’79 and her husband Bernard Brannigan ’77, and Robert Matthius ’76 and his wife Linda (Davi) Matthius ’76. She was predeceased by her son, Douglas Matthius ’72 M’77, whose estate generously supported Wagner’s new basketball scoreboard.
