A series of 6 profiles of immigrant Latino/Latina workers who live in Port Richmond, Staten Island, was published in a three-part series in the Staten Island Advance that began on Sunday, April 22, 2012. The profiles were written by Wagner College students enrolled in an honors seminar taught by President Richard Guarasci and Professor Abraham Unger. The students were working with a community organization created to support immigrant laborers in Port Richmond, El Centro del Inmigrante.

    • A Wagner Magazine article, "Conversations that Count," by Laura Barlament, documents the class that compiled the profiles.
    • In this video, Gonzalo Mercado, executive director of El Centro del Inmigrante, talks about the community organization's work in Port Richmond.
    • Part 1 of the series, "Putting a Face on Immigration," was published in the April 22 edition of the Advance.
    • Part 2 was published on April 23.
    • Part 3 was published on April 24.

Accompanying the series appearing in the print edition were three video stories produced by reporter Anthony DePrimo that are posted on the Advance website, silive.com. The first of those videos, in which members of the Wagner community explain the project, appears below:

The second video profiles Emma, who volunteers her time at the food pantry at El Centro del Inmigrante and talks about her experience helping people in her community after students from Wagner College profiled Latino and Latina immigrants in the Port Richmond community as part of a class project exploring negative stereotypes. Gonzalo Mercado, director of El Centro, also talks about Emma:

In the last of the three-part video series, Maria Morales, owner of Los Potrillos restaurant on Port Richmond Avenue, talks about her food and the plight of Latino/Latina immigrants:
