Wagner College Choir has decided to do a benefit concert this Sunday, Nov. 11 at 4 p.m. for the victims of Sandy. The concert will be given at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 309 St. Paul's Avenue, Staten Island. We will perform a varied repertoire that should be appealing to all ages and tastes and we will collect money and goods to help storm victims. Following the 9/11 attack, the choir was very active in the community and brought hope and comfort to many people who were suffering and in shock. We hope to do the same this Sunday. We would greatly appreciate your presence and solidarity at our concert.
We are coordinating with Greg Balaes, Wagner's SGA president and founder of Wagner Cares. He informs me that needed donations include water, baby items (including food), blankets, t-shirts, underwear, shovels, workers gloves, rakes, cleaning supplies (i.e. bleach), dust masks, socks, flash lights, lanterns, and batteries (especially D). Questions may be directed to katherine.schaefer@wagner.edu. As far as monetary donations, all money collected will be deposited in the Wagner Cares account. We will also encourage our audience to make donations online.
The College Choir has a Fund Raiser concert on Wednesday, Nov. 14 to support our tour of Germany and Austria that was planned this summer and we will go forward with that effort. Our event on the 14th is being publicized and choir members are speaking personally to many faculty and staff. We hope that Sunday's Benefit will not result in confusion and that our community can be generous on two fronts: on 11/11 for Storm victims and on the 14th for choir members who hope to have a once in a lifetime experience touring in Europe. We simply do not feel right asking for ourselves before we have tried to help others and have tried to offer comfort and healing in our own unique way.
I hope to see you Sunday at our concert.
