Wagner College takes center stage in the new Princeton Review rankings — with the No. 1 college theater in the country.
The top ranking, which was based on student surveys, “is a tribute to our students, alumni, and faculty and the positive community we've built along the way,” said Dr. Felicia Ruff, division chair of theatre and the arts.
Wagner alumni were well-represented among this year’s Tony and Drama Desk award nominees, and the college itself annually presents the Stanley Drama Award to encourage and support playwrights. College alumni are successful in the stage and screen worlds, as actors and in a variety of roles supporting the business.
The annual Princeton rankings of the country’s top 391 institutions also placed Wagner among the best colleges in the United States and in the Northeast, and among the 50 “Colleges that Create Futures.” This category recognizes schools that “empower students to discover practical applications for their talents and interests through experiences that complement their classes and coursework,” according to the Review.
Wagner also ranked No. 2 in the nation for “politically moderate students,” based on student surveys.
“This speaks to the true spirit of the Wagner student: respect,” said Dr. Thomas Tressler-Gelok, dean of campus life. “Our students are committed to engaging in different perspectives and have an inspiring willingness to engage in respectful dialogues with peers, faculty, and administrators. They remind us all that being an open-minded campus community that engages with all viewpoints allows us to remain curious, inclusive, and reflective.”
