Palermo places 2nd in Tunnel to Towers Foundation Climb
Wagner College graduate student Dominic Palermo reached the podium in the Tunnel to Towers Foundation Climb on Sunday, June 2, in Manhattan. Though he never competed in a stair-climb race before, he crossed the finish line of the 2,226-step, 104-story climb with a time of 15:07.
“It was a lot of fun,” Palermo, who recently finished 45th overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA East Regionals, told the Staten Island Advance.
“I have never done it before, so I just wanted to go out there and have some fun with. Plus, it’s always for a good cause. It was a great experience.”

Off-duty firefighter, nursing student saves man from burning building
Joseph Pendergast, a firefighter currently attending Wagner College’s Evelyn L. Spiro School of Nursing, saved a man from a burning building on May 31.
While off-duty on his way to the firehouse, Pendergast discovered an active fire coming from a building in Brooklyn. A fire crew hadn’t arrived and Pendergast learned a man was inside. He ran into the building and was able to get the man outside without personal protective equipment and the aid of fire gear.
“Several nursing students have balanced their roles in the FDNY while studying in my program,” Dean Patricia Tooker said. “They are exemplary young adults that truly give of themselves each and every day to those in need.”

Alumni work on 6 Tony-recognized Broadway productions
Wagner College alumni have been hard at work on Broadway. Multiple graduates were involved in six productions that received nominations and awards at the 77th Tony Awards, which were held on June 16.
Wagner’s own Viraj Shirwardhankar, Korey Sanders and Emma Pittman worked on “The Outsiders,” which won the award for best musical, among other awards. Rozzie Heeger, Ray Wetmore and JR Goodman were involved with the Eddie Redmayne-starring revival “Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club.” Wetmore and Goodman also did the puppetry in “Water for Elephants,” which received seven nominations.
Meanwhile, Emmy Steele was the assistant company manager on “Illinoise,” and Claire Manning was part of the company management for “The Who’s Tommy.” Aidan McDermott was the Assistant Company Manager of “An Enemy of the People.”

Greg Senat ’16 rings Nasdaq bell
Greg Senat ’16, who was an an offensive lineman for Wagner and played with the Kansas City Chiefs when they won Super Bowl LIV, rang the Nasdaq bell in June.
Now a real estate agent, Senat also played for the Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts and New York Jets.
