Egon O. Wendel ’49, professor emeritus and a dedicated member of the Wagner College community for nearly four decades, passed away on April 17, 2026, at the age of 101.
A proud alumnus, Dr. Wendel returned to Wagner in 1962 after a successful career in public education and went on to serve campus in multiple leadership roles, including chair of the Education Department, dean of the faculty, and academic vice president. Known for his fairness, integrity, and steady guidance, he played a central and important role in faculty development, curriculum advancement, and institutional progress during a pivotal era in the College’s history.

In recognition of his distinguished service, he was named professor emeritus. Together, they established the Katherine & Egon Wendel Award in Education, reflecting their lifelong gratitude and commitment to Wagner and its students.
A Service of Worship and Funeral Liturgy will be held on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Lutheran Church of the Messiah in Princeton, N.J.
