The Old Print Shop will host an exhibition of recent works by Staten Island artist and former Wagner College professor Bill Murphy from Sept. 17 to Oct. 26. Murphy, who served as Professor of Visual Arts and Chair of the Art Department here at Wagner from 1984 to 2020, invites the Wagner community to visit. Throughout his 35-year tenure, Murphy created many of the portraits displayed throughout our campus buildings.
The exhibition features Murphy’s charcoal and graphite drawings, watercolor and acrylic paintings, and intaglio prints, inspired by the landscapes of Staten Island and the Catskill Mountains.
As Murphy states, "Art is about getting at the heart of a visual experience. I wait until something stops me in my tracks, and then, through the process of drawing and painting, I try to figure out why that experience is important and what it means to me."
A reception for the artist will be held on Sept. 21 from 1 to 4 p.m., and Murphy will give an artist talk on Oct 19 at 1 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public.
The Old Print Shop is located at 49 West 24th St., 2nd floor, New York, NY, and is open Tuesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call 212-683-3950.
