Wagner College is excited to welcome filmmaker and producer Gerald Barclay for a special screening and discussion event, “Killa Hill - A Film Screening & Conversation about Race, Crime, and Home”, on Feb. 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. This event will bring together Wagner students, faculty, and the Staten Island community to explore issues at the intersection of crime, racism, immigration and the concept of home.
Gerald Barclay, a Liberian-American filmmaker, has made his mark in music videos, documentaries and feature films. He got his start in the industry directing music videos for artists like Wu-Tang Clan, Snoop Dogg and The Gap Band. His acclaimed documentaries, such as “Liberia: The Love of Liberty Brought Us Here” and “Wu: The Story of the Wu-Tang Clan,” tackle themes of identity, race, and social justice, and his feature film “Bloody Streetz” was recognized at the Pan-African Film Festival. Through his work, Barclay sheds light on underrepresented voices, creating films that are powerful and socially relevant.
Barclay will screen two episodes of “Killa Hill,” setting the stage for a panel discussion featuring Assistant District Attorney Andrew Casas, Legal Aid Society attorney Kelvin Richards, and Bernadette Ludwig, associate professor of sociology and director of civic engagement at Wagner College. The discussion will be followed by an audience Q&A and closing remarks. Attendees will also have the option to stay for an additional screening of “Killa Hill” Episode 4 at the end of the event.
