On Wednesday, June 4, Wagner College held its third annual Distinguished Educator Awards ceremony in Foundation Hall’s Manzulli Boardroom, led by Carin Guarasci, director of the New Educators at Wagner program. Watch the complete program here:
Wagner College President Richard Guarasci presented the Hank Murphy Award to EVELYN FINN, principal of Lavelle Preparatory Charter School. The award honors Hank Murphy, who served as principal of Staten Island’s P.S. 11 on from 1986 until 2001. Murphy earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Wagner College.
Wagner College trustee and retired New York City school teacher Aletta Diamond presented the Distinguished Educator Award for a teacher who is living or working in Staten Island to MELISSA MORRIS, music teacher at CSI High School.
Wagner College administrator and education alumna Samantha Siegel presented the Distinguished Educator Award for a Wagner graduate who is a teacher to PAMELA WASHINGTON, a teacher at the Vanderbilt School P.S. 14.
Christine Cea of the New York State Board of Regents presented the Distinguished Educator Award for an educational leader who is living or working in Staten Island to SUSAN SHEPHERD, principal of St. John Villa Academy High School.
Wagner College education professor David Gordon presented the Distinguished Educator Award for a Wagner graduate who is an educational leader to AMANDA CORTESE, assistant academic director at New World Preparatory Charter School.
Wagner College education professor Jason Fitzgerald presented the Distinguished Educator Award for a Wagner College professor to DANIELLE ARENA, an adjunct education professor.
Wagner College Professor Emeritus Stephen Preskill presented the Distinguished Educator Award for a community educator to SAMANTHA SIEGEL, director of Wagner’s Center for Leadership and Engagement.
In a surprise presentation, the Wagner College Education Department faculty presented the inaugural Compass Award to STEPHEN PRESKILL, former chairman of the department and recently retired distinguished professor of civic engagement.
