Prerequisites (Cognates) for a Bachelor of Science Degree with a Major in Nursing
(Traditional 4-Year and Second-Degree Programs)
- Biology 209, 210 with Labs (2 units)
- Human Anatomy & Physiology I & II
- Psychology 101 or Sociology 101 or Anthropology 101 (1 unit)
- Introduction to Psychology or Introduction to Sociology or General Anthropology
- Microbiology 200 with Lab (1 unit)
- Intermediate Learning Community
- Fall, Spring Sophomore Year
- Nutrition (1 unit)
- Intermediate Learning Community
- Fall, Spring Sophomore Year
In addition to the above courses:
All students must take the ATI TEAS exam and score proficient or higher.
*Traditional Students- TEAS scores must be submitted before June 1. Students who have not submitted a passing TEAS score by June 1 of their sophomore year will not be permitted to enter the program.
**Second Degree Applicants- TEAS scores should be submitted at the same time as your application. Students who have not submitted a passing grade by June 1 at the latest will not be permitted to enter the program.
Notes:
- All courses with a lab component must be taken live/in classroom.
- Nursing courses cannot be taken unless all prerequisites (cognates) are completed.
- All prerequisites must be completed by the end of the Spring Semester in which you are applying (traditional/transfer).
- Transfer students must be matriculated at Wagner College for at least one year (two semesters; not including summer) prior to beginning the Nursing Program.
- NR224 offered online in the summer is for Second Degree Students only.
Traditional/Transfer Students:
Effective Fall 2018 GPA requirement will now be 3.2, passing grade on all prerequisite courses will be B- , passing grade on the ATI TEAS will be proficient or higher. As always all requirements MUST be completed by June 1 of your sophomore year /the calendar year in which you would be entering nursing.
Second Degree Students:
Minimum GPA requirement is 3.2. B- or higher is required on all prerequisites. If unsuccessful, prerequisites may only be repeated one time. Passing grade on TEAS is Proficient or higher. You May apply with prerequisites in progress but they must be completed and official grades submitted to Wagner by June 1st.
The opportunity to interview and acceptance in any given year is based on the number of applicants and the strength of the applicant pool.
