WCT ALUMNI SHINE THIS BROADWAY AWARDS SEASON

It is with immense pride that Wagner College Theatre congratulates the outstanding alumni whose artistry and leadership were celebrated during the 2025 theater award season. From thrilling revivals to dazzling new works, Wagner talent left its mark on Broadway and beyond at both the 2025 Drama Desk Awards (June 1, NYU Skirball) and the 78th Annual Tony Awards (June 8, Radio City Music Hall).

THE BIG GAY JAMBOREE, featuring Olivia Puckett ‘13 (Ensemble, Flora u/s), was nominated for the Drama Desk Awards for Outstanding Featured Performance in a Musical, Outstanding Lyrics, Outstanding Book of  Musical, and Outstanding Costume Design of a Musical.

FLOYD COLLINS reemerged as a powerhouse revival with Nick Bucholz ‘17 serving as Press Agent. The production earned Tony Award nominations for Best Revival of a Musical, Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role Musical, Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role Musical, Best Lighting Design of a Musical, Best Sound Design of a Musical, and Best Orchestrations. It was similarly recognized by the Drama Desk Awards for which it received nominations in Outstanding Revival of a Musical, Outstanding Lead Performance in a Musical, Outstanding Featured Performance in a Musical, Outstanding Lighting Design of a Musical, and Outstanding Sound Design of a Musical.

Sophia Tzougros, a 2018 graduate, performed in the ensemble of GOOD NIGHT, AND GOOD LUCK. She was joined behind the scenes by prop supervisors JR Goodman ‘13 and Ray Wetmore ‘07,  and House Seat Coordinator Dillon Burke '23. The production received multiple Tony Award nominations including, Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, Best Scenic Design of Play, Best Costume Design of a Play, Best Lighting Design of a Play, and Best Sound Design of a Play.

Ilana Bolotsky '12 is the Child Guardian for GYPSY. The iconic revival was Tony nominated for Best Revival of a Musical, Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role Musical, Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role Musical, Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role Musical, and Best Choreography. It won the Drama Desk Awards for Outstanding Revival of a Musical and Outstanding Lead Performance in a Musical, as well as being nominated for Outstanding Featured Performance in a Musical, Outstanding Direction of a Musical, Outstanding Choreography, Outstanding Costume Design of a Musical, and Outstanding Sound Design of a Musical.

Aidan McDermott ‘20 had a busy season as an Assistant Company Manager for two major productions. JUST IN TIME, which stars Tony Award winner and former Wagner faculty member Michele Pawk, earned an impressive list of Tony nominations including Best Scenic Design of a Musical, Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role Musical, Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role Musical, Best Scenic Design of a Musical, Best Costume Design of a Musical, Best Sound Design of a Musical, and Best Orchestrations. The show’s acclaim extended to the Drama Desk Awards, where it picked up wins for Outstanding Orchestration and Outstanding Sound Design, and was nominated for Outstanding Musical, Outstanding Lead Performance in a Musical, Outstanding Featured Performance in a Musical, Outstanding Direction of a Musical, Outstanding Book of  Musical, Outstanding Scenic Design of a Musical, and Outstanding Costume Design of a Musical. McDermott’s other show, SWEPT AWAY, was Tony nominated for Best Scenic Design of a Musical, and Drama Desk Award nominated for Outstanding Scenic Design of a Musical and Outstanding Lighting Design of a Musical.

JR Goodman and Ray Wetmore were also credited as Production Props Supervisors on THE PICTURE OF DORIAN GRAY, a hauntingly modern adaptation that won the Tony Award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role and Best Costume Design of a Play. It also received nominations for Best Scenic Design of Play, Best Lighting Design of a Play, Best Sound Design of a Play, and Best Direction of a Play. At the Drama Desk Awards, the show earned wins for Outstanding Lead Performance in a Play, Outstanding Projection and Video Design, and Unique Theatrical Experience, with additional nominations for Outstanding Direction of a Play, Outstanding Sound Design of a Play.

Goodman and Wetmore’s prop work was further celebrated with STRANGER THINGS: FIRST SHADOW, which dominated the technical categories. The show earned Tony Awards for Best Scenic, Lighting, and Sound Design of a Play, as well as a special Tony Award for The Illusions & Technical Effects. It was also Tony nominated for Best Costume Design, Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, and Best Costume Design of a Play. The Drama Desk Awards were similarly impressed, honoring the production with wins in the same three categories, with additional nominations for Outstanding Lead Performance in a Play, and Outstanding Direction of a Play.

Maia Kayla Glasman ’22 had a remarkable season as a producer, playing a key role in some of the most celebrated productions on Broadway. GLENGARRY GLEN ROSS earned a Tony nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role, while OUR TOWN garnered a Tony nomination for Best Revival of a Play and a Drama Desk nomination for Outstanding Costume Design of a Play. But it was MAYBE HAPPY ENDING that truly defined the season, sweeping the Tony Awards with wins for Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Original Score, Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical, Best Scenic Design of a Musical, Best Direction of a Musical, and nominations for Best Costume Design, Lighting Design, Sound Design, and Orchestrations. The show also dominated the Drama Desk Awards, winning Outstanding Musical, Direction, Music, Lyrics, Book, and Scenic Design, with additional nominations for Lead Performance and Orchestrations.
