Workshop series: ‘The Business of Film’

Stephen Greenwald in class

This summer, Wagner College will expand from its home on Staten Island to offer learning opportunities in Manhattan’s Financial District. Wagner’s premier offering in a new borough of New York City will be “The Business of Film: Media Workshops,” a series composed of three seminars:

  • Movie Development — Tuesday, Sept. 18, 8 to 10 a.m.
  • Film Financing — Thursday, Sept. 20, 8 to 10 a.m.
  • Distribution & Marketing — Friday, Sept. 21, 8 to 10 a.m.

Offered through Wagner College’s Department for Lifelong Learning, this limited three-course series is designed to be a learning and networking opportunity for both established and aspiring filmmakers, producers, attorneys and film and media production executives. Each workshop draws on the expertise of Wagner’s faculty in the media management master’s degree program, who provide behind-the-scenes insight into topics vital to current and future media industries. Those who register to attend all three workshops will receive a special series discount.

The “Business of Film” workshops have been developed from a text of the same name written by Stephen R. Greenwald and Paula Landry. Greenwald is the director of film and media initiatives for Wagner College. Paula Landry is the CEO of IdeaBlizzard Productions and serves as an adjunct professor for the media management master’s degree program at Wagner College.

Greenwald and Landry will be instructing the workshops along with Robert Garson, an attorney registered to practice in both New York and the United Kingdom.

“I hope that attendees will come in wanting to learn the fastest, most effective way to make films and benefit from our collective experience,” Landry says. “Learners can bring in whatever they’re working on, and we’ll share the real inside details of specific movies to help guide attendees on their own projects.”
