Pre-Professional Time Line

Before Attending Wagner College:

  • Indicate an interest in the Pre–Professional Health Program on your Academic Advisement Form (for incoming freshmen students).
  • Register for a science-related freshman learning community.
  • Explore potential health science careers at ExploreHealthCareers.Org

Freshman Year:

  • Attend Pre-Health Program Meeting during Freshmen Orientation.
  • Attend mandatory fall and spring semester Pre-Health Program meetings.
  • Meet with the Pre–Professional Health Committee and review your course of study.
  • Engage in community service, extracurricular activity and summer internships which appeal to you.
  • Research and explore career possibilities within health–related fields.
  • shadowing/observation experience.
  • Maintain minimum 3.2 GPA.

Sophomore Year:

  • Attend mandatory fall and spring semester Pre-Health Program meetings.
  • Meet with your pre–health advisor during the academic year.
  • Obtain two letters of recommendation (one from your academic advisor) and apply for formal admission status.
  • Complete self-assessment essay.
  • Engage in community service, extracurricular activity and summer internships which appeal to you.
  • Begin preparing for the appropriate professional school entrance examinations.
  • shadowing/observation experience.
  • Maintain minimum GPA (program dependent).

Junior Year:

  • Attend mandatory fall and spring semester Pre-Health Program meetings.
  • Meet with your Pre–health Program advisor.
  • Complete the Junior Year Questionnaire (obtain the actual form from the Pre–Professional Health Committee or this website).
  • Obtain all the documents for requesting the committee recommendation.
  • Obtain letters of recommendation before the end of the academic year.
  • Draft your personal statement and preliminary essay.
  • Arrange a mock interview session with Center for Academic and Career Engagement .
  • Register and attend a preparatory class (Kaplan™, Princeton Review™).
  • Register and take the appropriate professional examination (spring or summer).
  • Obtain an application form (summer).
  • Verify that the Pre–Professional Health Committee has all the required documents on file before the end of the academic year. This includes a written request for a committee letter, letters of recommendation, personal statement, Junior Year Questionnaire, resume and unofficial transcript (myWagner).
  • Maintain appropriate minimum GPA.

Senior Year:

  • Attend mandatory fall and spring semester Pre-Health Program meetings.
  • Send out secondary letters of application to individual schools. Inform the committee so that letters of recommendation can be sent to those schools.
  • Schedule a mock interview session with the Center for Academic and Career Engagement.
  • Schedule interviews.
  • Withdraw acceptances from other schools once you have decided on which school you will attend.
  • Inform Co-chairs of Program of all acceptances.
  • Complete all appropriate coursework and maintain minimum GPA.
  • Provide co-chairs with contact information.
