        Psychology Major Concentrations

        Students majoring in psychology (BA or BS) have the option of declaring an area of concentration.

        • A concentration is not required.
        • The psychology major requires 11 units. Each concentration includes 6 units that are required along with the 5 psychology major core courses.
        • The psychology core (5 units): PS 101, PS 201/201L, PS 213/213L, PS 400/400E & PS 441. Note: the BS major always requires a minor in science or math.
        • A student may have only one concentration.

        The Five Concentrations

         
        Brain and Behavior
        This concentration focuses on the function of the nervous system and the study of behavior.

        Mental Health
        The courses in the Mental health concentration focus on counseling, psychopathology, and wellness.
        Mental Health
        Cognition
        Courses in the cognition concentration focus on mind-body relations, problem-solving, decision-making, memory, perception and more.

        Human Development
        The courses in this concentration examine how and why humans grow, change, and adapt across the course of their lives.

        Interested in how individual or group behavior is influenced by the presence and behavior of others? The social concentration is for you.
