Interested in Child Life? Psychology is a great major.

In 2020-2021, the psychology department offers the courses you need to prepare for career or advanced study in Child Life. The following courses are categorized as they are by the Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP).

  • Child Life course: PS 292 (will be offered in Summer 2020 only)
  • Child development:
    • Child psychology, PS 111 (Fall 2020)
    • Human Development, PS 306 (Fall 2020)
  • Research course (offered every semester):
    • Psych Statistics & Methods, PS 116 (required for psychology major)
    • Psych Testing, PS 213 (required for psychology major)
    • 2 experimental psychology courses (PS 306 is one in that category) that are required in psychology major
  • Death & Dying: PS 214 (we plan to offer in Spring 2021)
  • Family systems: PS 316 (next offered in Fall 2020).
    • Also consider: There are several courses in sociology and social work that would be relevant
      • Courtship & Marriage (SO 201), The Family (SO 301), & Social Work Practice with Individuals and Families (SW 211) which would all count in a sociology minor. They would be good for those "additional" classes recommended by the ACLP). See Sociology website for information on when these courses are offered)
  • Play: we do not currently offer a course on play but we are examining the possibility to offer one.

Internship/volunteer work in the Wagner College Early Childhood Center is possible.
