Summer Conferences and Residential Education 2018 Position Openings

Job Description:

Summer Conference Assistants work for the Department for Lifelong Learning and the Office of Residential Education and are expected to conduct themselves maturely, with integrity, and be attuned to the goals and objectives of the Residential Education program. The primary goal is to provide an environment conducive to the academic and personal growth of students living in the residential facilities. The Conference Assistants reports to the ACUHO-I Intern for Summer Conferences. This position is a partnership position between the Department for Lifelong Learning & the Office of Residential Education.

Position Start and End Dates:

Positions start on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 through Sunday, August 12, 2018

Responsibilities:

  • Provide excellent customer service to Wagner College overnight guests.
  • Post visitor information in rooms and common space.
  • Serve on an on-call duty rotation of RAs and CAs for students and overnight guests.
  • Prepare and inspect guests’ rooms which include making beds, checking lights, inspecting HVAC units, and ensuring cleanliness, etc. (will require manual labor on an as-needed basis.)
  • Remove and bag linens when guests leave ensuring that all bags are brought to the designated drop off spot for laundry service provider pick up.
  • Be responsible for organization of all fresh and to-be-cleaned linens.
  • Monitor and report the condition of furniture in rooms and common spaces.
  • Monitor rooms and hallways for any Maintenance and Housekeeping concerns and report to supervisor.
  • Address emergency situations in the residence halls, in collaboration with supervisor on call.
  • Work with the Summer ACUHO-I Intern, Residential Education, and Lifelong Learning administration on check in and out procedures to ensure proper distribution and return of keys and access cards.
  • Meet deadlines and be punctual.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and support fellow staff members.
  • Work collaboratively with Summer Resident Assistant and Turnover Assistant staff.
  • Contribute to a peaceful atmosphere in the building.
  • Assist with setup and breakdown of equipment for summer events.
  • Staff the Front Desk in the residence halls on a rotating basis to ensure students entering building have proper identification.
  • Manage 1-2 SYEP interns.
  • Mandated reporter for incidents pertaining to sexual violence and misconduct.
  • Complete other tasks as assigned.

 

Time Commitment:

  • Up to 20 hours per week – pay period is Friday to Thursday; paychecks available on Wednesdays
  • Must be available to work days, evenings, and some weekends, including Alumni Weekend
  • Evening and Weekend – All CAs will serve in a duty rotation to do rounds and respond to emergencies in the residence halls as part of their housing agreement.
  • Must be available to work for the entire duration of employment with possibility of brief vacation only if pre-approved by supervisor.
  • Attend two non-paid mandatory training sessions on Wednesday, May 9th and Thursday, May 10th (OR May 29th) – TBD  on how to set up room, monitor inventory, restock linen room, welcome guests, conduct rounds, document incidents, and Wagner Residential Education and Lifelong Learning protocols.

 

Compensation includes:

  • $13.00/hour for up to 20 hours of scheduled daytime hours weekly during the summer conference period (June 1 – August 12).
  • Double occupancy housing accommodations in a summer residence hall for the duration of employment in exchange for on call evening and weekend duty rotation (May 29 – August 12).

 

Please note that responsibilities, dates, and information are subject to change by Lifelong Learning or the Office of Residential Education in accordance to needs of summer programs.

The Turnover Assistant (TA) position is part of a team of students who provide assistance to the Office of Residential Education in terms of facilities, logistics and operations. The successful candidates will serve on a team of 4-6 TAs who are responsible for providing support to the summer turnover processes for Residential Education.  

 

Terms of Employment:

  • Must be available to work from May 14th, 2018 to August, 24th, 2018 with minimal interruptions.
  • Scheduling may be flexible at the end of August.
  • Work hours occur during the business day (M-F 8:30am-5:00pm). Some weekend hours may be needed.
  • Must work Alumni Weekend (June 1st, 2018 – June 3rd, 2018)
  • Must be a matriculated student in Fall 2018 at Wagner College. Strong consideration will be given to candidates without August commitments.
  • Must be in good judicial standing with Wagner College.
  • Training during Week of May 8th 2018.

 

Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Providing general support to the summer processes of the Office of Residential Education.
  • Escorting facilities staff, external vendors, and college visitors to residential facilities.
  • Inspect rooms to ensure work orders are completed.
  • Assist in room set-ups for summer residents and conference guests on conjunction with Residential Education, Lifelong Learning, and Campus Operations staff.
  • Provide excellent customer service to campus guests and students.
  • Perform extensive key and furniture inventories for residence halls on campus.
  • Be able to climb numerous flights of stairs and lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Manage  1-2 SYEP interns
  • Mandated reporter for incidents pertaining to sexual violence and misconduct.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Compensation:

  • Occupancy in a double room for the summer term in a double room with another student.
  • College meal plan of 14 meals a week.

  • This position reports directly to the ACUHO-I Intern for Residential Education.
  • This position has indirect reporting to other members of the Office of Residential Education based on the assignment of the Assistant Director.
  • Priority selection will be given to students who are residential students for the Fall 2018 semester.
