Double Room Buyout Option

The Double Room Buyout option has been created to better utilize campus space. Residents who find themselves in double rooms without a roommate may opt to buy out the second bed in the room, alleviating them from the chance of having another individual assigned to that space. This option comes at an additional cost.

Eligibility

  • After the two week room freeze that occurs at the beginning of each semester, residents with half-vacancies in their room will be given the option of buying out the second space in that room at an additional cost
  • Students in medical placements may also move into double vacancies that are available and will pay an additional amount, though not the full price. (See cost section)
  • Residents in traditional living situations (i.e. in a full double room or in a regular single) may submit paperwork and be placed on a wait list for an open double room on a first-come, first served basis.
  • After the two-week housing freeze, the wait list will be considered and then students who are eligible for Double Room Buyout will be notified.
  • Building limitations will still apply.
  • Residential Education will reserve some vacant doubles for emergency situations in each building.

Policies

  • Residents who have bought out the room will be permitted to arrange furniture to their liking. However, no college-issued furniture may be removed from the room
  • Double rooms will default to open doubles at the end of each semester.
  • A student in a suite can buyout the doubles within the suite , but there is no option for residents to buy out the second bedroom of a suite if it is fully vacant.

Costs

  • The cost for a Double Room Buyout for a full semester is the double room rate plus $2000.
  • In the event a Double Room Buyout occur mid-semester, the cost may be pro-rated based on the week a student commits to.
