Sociology Concentration: Criminal Justice

Current job:
Police officer

Why did I decide to major in sociology?
To be completely transparent, it was the easiest major to coincide with my football schedule (sorry but true). However, I am glad I did because majoring in Sociology taught me life skills and lessons that I utilized on a daily basis both professionally and personally.

How has your Sociology degree (what you learned in your classes, readings, assignments, etc.) helped you in your job (and personal life)?
Majoring in sociology taught me to understand the importance of communication and compassion. As a law enforcement professional, my main goal is to serve and protect the community I grew up in. Communicating with all members of my community on a daily basis aids in not only solving crime but to ultimately developing everlasting relationships with one another.

Your fondest memory of a Sociology class?
Getting a rise out of Dr. Ludwig during class!

Any tips you have for current Wagner (Sociology) students?
Take advantage of every class you are in. I know it is tempting to go on your phone or worry about what you are going to do following class, but the lessons you learn while studying sociology become life skills you will utilize every day. If you apply yourself, you will be able to develop life-long traits that other majors do not educate!
