2025-2026 FAFSA FAQs

The release of the 2025-2026 FAFSA has been delayed until December 2024.

NYS residents: please note, the NYS TAP application will be available December 1, 2024.




•Begin determining which parent’s information is to be reported on the application.
•Each person reporting information on the FAFSA, must have an FSA ID. FSA IDs can be requested at studentaid.gov.
•Make sure each person (contributor) whose information will be reported on the FAFSA has filed their 2023 federal tax return, if required.


The Student Aid Index (SAI) is a number used when your aid offer is created that indicates how much financial assistance your family may need to pay for school.


Prior to submitting the FAFSA, you can complete the Federal Aid Estimator at studentaid.gov/aid-estimator. This will provide an estimate of your federal aid only.



Wagner has adjusted our priority deadlines for the 2025-26 academic year.
Prospective students – February 1, 2025
Current students – February 15, 2025
Please note: if you have not yet filed your FAFSA, it is not too late to do so!



The parent who provides most of your financial support in the last 12 months. Please see review this guide to determine which contributor needs to be reported.  You can also use this tool to determine which contributor should be reporting information.



Typically, schools begin receiving FAFSA data within a few days after you have filed your FAFSA.
